David Dopp of Santaquin, Utah saw every high-power car lover’s dream come true, then turn into a nightmare, all in the course of 6 short hours.
Dopp, 34, won a $380,000 lime green Lamborghini Murcielago in a “Joe
Schmo to Lambo” contest sponsored by a local Maverick convenience store.
Although the Murcielago also came with a course in how to drive it,
Dopp decided to immediately take it for a variety of joy rides with
family members and friends on the same day the car’s keys were handed to
him.
During one fateful trip just six hours after receiving the
high-powered car, Dopp took a curve going 40-50 mph, lost control, and
spun out into a few fence posts. Nobody was hurt, but the Lamborghini
is being hauled to Las Vegas for repairs to its front end, a punctured
wheel, and scratches on one side, according to the Associated Press.
“My heart pretty much fell out,” said Dopp’s wife, Annette, when
recalling seeing the damaged car. When the car is back from repairs,
Dopp says he plans to sell it and buy another (perhaps more sensible?)
car for his wife.
