Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas Prime Minister of Gaza is visiting Tunisia on
Thursday, January 5th. Haneya who is making his first official trip
abroad since his Islamist movement took over the Gaza Strip in 2007 has
already been welcomed in Turkey and Egypt and is scheduled to visit
Qatar, Bahrain and Iran after Tunisia.
Haniyeh’s is scheduled to stay in Tunisia for four days. “The
government will host him only for one day. The rest of his trip will be
hosted by civil society organizations and political parties,” stated Lotfi Zitoun, Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali’s political adviser.
Zoubair Chhoudi, Ennahda’s spokesperson said that Haneyeh’s trip will
include visits to different Tunisian regions. “His agenda will consist
of visiting Kairouan, Sidi Bouzid and maybe attending the celebration of
the Revolution’s first anniversary in Kasserine,”explained Zoubair
Chhoudi.
Some Tunisian organizations have recently invited
a group of high ranking Hamas officials to Tunisia on the occasion of
the anniversary of the Israeli war against the Gaza Strip.
Lotfi Zitoun said that the government will soon release an official
statement with more information about the agenda of Haneyeh’s visit.
